FAQ
- Q1) Download doesn’t start.
A1) The download server is possibly busy. Wait for the moment. Or, shut down the browser once, and search and download tiles again after a while.
Q2) When will the tiles in backlog be downloadable?
A2) You can check the estimated date and time of download on Backlog Reference page. When the selected tiles become downloadable but a client is not ready yet (power is off, or PC is not connected to Internet), the order of download will be re-arranged in the end of the waiting list. Consequently, the download may start earlier than estimated or later.
Q3) I had an error while searching.
Q3) When the server is busy, when the connection between client’s server fails, or when errors occur frequently, your search may be terminated with an error message. In this case, make your search area smaller by re-specifying polygon, shape file and coordinates.
- Q4) I am in charge of education. There is no category of education to choose on Agreement page. Is the GDEM data use for education purpose not allowed?
A4) You can use GDEM for education purpose, too. From 9 categories, choose an option which is the closest purpose to the education for which you use ASTER GDEM.
- Q5)When data processing is made to ASTER GDEM, in which cases I can redistribute or cannot redistribute the data? Please describe the details of restrictions on redistribution of ASTER GDEM.
A5) Whether you can or cannot redistribute the data depends on reversibility of the data you are supposed to redistribute. Some examples are as follows.
Reversible data: CAN NOT be redistributed
1) Data whose unit is simply changed, so the original x-y-z values can be recovered
2) Data whose format is simply transformed (e.g., transformation from GeoTIFF to ESRI format)
3) Mosaicked GDEM data
4) Data subset at better resolution than the native (1 arc-second)
Unreversible data: CAN be redistributed
1) Paper materials on which the image produced from GDEM is printed
2) Re-projected images involving re-sampling
3) Data whose format is transformed so that the data can not be converted back to the original data
4) Value-added product (e.g., flyby movie)
Data that can be redistributed is also required to post copyright notice.
